A 31 page newly updated and revised coloured illustrated "Guide to Beatles UK Reel To Reel Tapes: 1963-1970" which were released at the approximate same time as their vinyl counterpart. From "Please Please Me" in 1963 to "Let It Be" in 1970. An often overlooked area by Beatles collectors these gems have now gained significance in the rarity stakes by being included in the UK Rare Record Guide, which means that they are now of value.
This guide is a personally authored document, printed by myself, with all the information you will ever need to know about these rarer Beatles items. The domestic tape recorder only took off as a consumer item in the late 1950s, but not markedly so, the buyers of "tape records" (as EMI called them) being known as "audiophiles" - the forerunner of Hi-Fi enthusiasts - and they were concerned with the quality of sound these reel tapes running at 3 &3/4 inches per second and on 1/4 inch tape produced.
This detailed guide will take you through what to look for when selecting an excellent condition tape, what components came with the package, as well as the history of the original Beatles catalogue in reel to reel form, before the introduction of the first Beatles cassette (Sgt Pepper) in 1968. (Even then the cassette never really gained full acceptance until 1972). The double main appeal of Beatles reel to reels seems to be that they were available at the same time as the original vinyls, and their superior sound quality for the time. Many prefer the earlier "warm, natural and intimate" sound of the twin track monos to the later four track stereos.
Please see my other Beatles guides under "my other items".These include guides to Beatles LP Misprints, Mispressings & Anomalies, a guide to Beatles 45rpm and EP Misprints, Mispressings & Anomalies, a guide to Collectible Beatles Cassettes (1968-1971), and a guide to Understanding Beatles LP Matrix, Mother & Stamper Numbers.
