Se nel 1970 il progressive anglosassone stava già maturando considerevolmente e aveva già dato alle stampe alcuni dei suoi capolavori, in Italia certe influenze dovevano ancora essere importate e assimilate appieno. Siamo perciò in un anno di transizione, tra il genere beat/psichedelico e quello progressivo, e la musica dei veneziani Il Mucchio rappresenta perfettamente questo desiderio, ancora non perfettamente focalizzato, di andare oltre gli schemi della musica pop del decennio appena concluso.

L'omonimo e unico LP della band, dominato dalle tastiere (la prima line-up de Il Mucchio non aveva chitarristi in organico), mostra evidenti abilità di songwriting e una voce che spesso porta a facili similitudini con i New Trolls. Ma la personalità non manca nelle otto tracce del disco, e ci si può solo domandare che ne sarebbe stato della band se avesse avuto effettivamente la possibilità di evolversi ulteriormente.

Purtroppo, dopo tre ulteriori 45 giri e un cambio di formazione, il gruppo si sciolse lasciandosi alle spalle un unico - bellissimo - album, anch'esso dimenticato per decenni e mai ristampato in vinile. Questa edizione curata da Vinyl Magic in CD papersleeve contiene come bonus track i quattro brani contenuti nei singoli "Un'estate senza caldo" e "Lei se ne andrà".

When in 1970 the English progressive rock was already considerably mature and had already released some of his masterpieces, Italy still had to fully import and assimilate certain influences. We are therefore in a year of transition between the beat/psychedelic and the progressive genre. Venetian band Il Mucchio's music perfectly represents this desire, yet not perfectly focused, to go beyond the pop music schemes of the decade that had just ended.

The self-titled and only group's LP, dominated by keyboards (the first Il Mucchio's line-up did not feature any guitarists), shows noticeable songwriting skills and a voice that easily recalls similarities with the New Trolls. But personality is not lacking in these eight tracks, and we can only wonder what would become of the band if he actually had the opportunity to evolve further.

Unfortunately, after three more 7-inch and a line-up change, the group disbanded, leaving behind them just  a single - beautiful - album, also forgotten for decades and never reissued on vinyl. This papersleeve CD edition, curated by Vinyl Magic, contains as bonus tracks the four songs of the two singles "Un'estate senza caldo" and "Lei se ne andrà".
