CHATHAM COUNTY LINE - IV [WHITE LABEL TEST PRESSING]
This white label test pressing is being auctioned as part of Yep Roc Records "1 of 4 a Cause" auction. Proceeds from this sale will be split between the following four nonprofits: Girls Rock NC, Activate Good, Be Loud! Sophie, and WHUP-FM.
Yep Roc Records is celebrating its 20th year. Throughout the label's history, we have been making vinyl LP releases of our artists' albums. Artists on the label include Robyn Hitchcock, Dave Alvin, Josh Rouse, Nick Lowe, Tony Joe White, Kim Richey, The Minus 5, Jukebox the Ghost, Fountains of Wayne and Sloan. For each vinyl release a small number of test pressings (usually just 4) are made, so that the artist, producer, manager and label can listen to make sure the LP sounds as it should, prior to the commercial production of the LP begins.
For the past 8 years, most test pressings Yep Roc received were placed on a shelf in the General Manager's office. While the other copies remain in the hands of the artists, producers and/or managers, Yep Roc has decided to auction off this stash of test pressings to help raise money for several non-profits.
This is the earliest pressing of this record. In bidding on this record, you are not only getting the opportunity to own a piece of history, you are supporting 4 good causes.
They are:
Girls Rock NC - In thirteen years of programming, Girls Rock NC has held nearly 100 music programs for girls in Chapel Hill, Durham, and Raleigh. Campers have gone on to perform in successful bands and have even take on leadership roles at camp.
Activate Good - With a goal that all good causes in the Triangle will get the help they need, Activate Good continues to influence the community and work with volunteers who realize and exercise their potential to make a change, facilitating over 360 local causes in 2016 alone.
WHUP - Broadcasting from Hillsborough, WHUP's vision is consistent with that of excellent community stations around the country and present a high-quality, eclectic, host-driven mix of music and conversation that collectively reflects the community we serve, with an emphasis on local and regional talent.
Be Loud! Sophie - The Be Loud! Sophie Foundation supports adolescent and young adult cancer patients and their families at UNC Hospitals. The foundation funds the only adolescent and young adult program director at a cancer hospital in the United States in honor of Sophie Steiner, a Chapel Hill teenager who died of cancer in 2013.
Please note that due to the nature of a test pressing - it is made so that the pressing can either be approved or denied - this test pressing may have been denied. In the majority of instances, test pressings are approved. Of the 150 white label test pressing in this auction it is possible that one or two have been denied by an artist. This is not because they are unplayable. In a case where a test pressing has been denied, it is usually due to a discrepancy in the track listing or other issues that are not related to the playability. Yep Roc did have some test pressings with skips in them, and to the best of our knowledge, none of these are being sold in this auction. In the case where a test pressing was denied, this version of the LP is even more rare, since only a handful of the version exist.
Also, these test pressings have only been played once or twice, at time Yep Roc was listening for approval. We have not played any of these records in preparation for this auction, but it is assumed the condition is NM for all records in this auction. However, this may not be true, since we have not play-tested these records.
Because these proceeds are going to charity, we are not accepting returns.
