description:
Experimental electroacoustic works produced at the Studio for Experimental Music at the University of Illinois. Several pieces feature the Harmonic Tone Generator, an early electronic instrument developed by James Beauchamp. Gaburo's For Harry, dedicated to Harry Partch, is a beautiful attempt to electronically emulate the unique resonances of Partch's microtonal instruments. Hamm's piece incorporates text by Ezra Pound and is conducted by Jack McKenzie. The free jazz-influenced Martirano composition pairs live electronics with an instrumental ensemble and wild experimental vocals. The Hiller work combines live instruments with prerecorded electronics.

artist info from album notes etc.:
The Studio for Experimental Music was founded by Lejaren Hiller (who was inspired by John Cage when he visited the school in 1953); the music produced there in the 60s by the artists on this lp (along with Ben Johnston) paralleled the work of musique concrete composers like Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Luc Ferrari, Bernard Parmegiani, and Francois Bayle, as well as Rune Lindblad, Dick Raaijmakers, Bulent Arel, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Arne Nordheim, Vladimir Ussachevsky, and Henk Badings. Gaburo is a multimedia composer who studied with Bernard Rogers, Burrill Phillips, and Goffredo Petrassi, and taught Donald Erb. Hamm studied under Bohuslav Martinu, Randall Thompson, and Edward Cone. Hiller was a chemist and composer who studied under Milton Babbitt and Roger Sessions and is credited with creating the first ever computer composition. Brun studied under Stefan Wolpe and worked at early electronic studios in Paris, Munich, and Cologne (where Robert Beyer, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Herbert Eimert, Karel Goeyvaerts, Bruno Maderna, and Franco Evangelisti also worked). Martirano was taught by Herbert Elwell, Bernard Rodgers, and Luigi Dallapiccola, worked at IRCAM, and developed the Sal Mar Construction, an electronic composing/performing system.

I use new record mailers which I have determined are the best and most protective, reinforced with cardboard inserts and bubble wrap padding. All records are shipped with poly plastic sleeves and with the vinyl outside of the cover to prevent damage. All packages are completely sealed with strong packing tape covering all openings. Unless requested, no paper invoice is included in the package, both to save trees and to avoid customs difficulties. If you'd like your package done any differently, just let me know.

Payment I accept Paypal (which allows for fastest possible shipment). Please email with any payment questions. If you are paying by Paypal and have won multiple items, please use a single Paypal payment. I will send an eBay invoice to winners shortly after my auctions close, and an email after payment has been received to confirm item shipment.
