Side A features Phil Urso’s first recording session of his own and the musicians are: Phil Urso (ts) Walter Bishop, Jr. (p), Clyde Lombardi (b) Howie Mann (d). They play: LITTLE PRES; THREE LITTLE WORDS; DON’T TAKE YOUR LOVE FROM ME and SHE’S FUNNY THAT WAY. This was recorded on April 14, 1953 and released as “The Philosophy Of Urso”. SIDE B includes: Bob Brookmeyer (v-tb) Phil Urso (ts), Horace Silver (p), Percy Heath (b), Kenny Clarke (d). They perform: CHIKETA; STOP WATCH; WIZZARD’S GIZZARD and OZZIE’S ODE. This was recorded on April 30, 1954 and was released as “Urso-Brookmeyer Quintet. This is a MONO recording. I have graded the vinyl as VG+ as the eye can fool the beholder. If you examine the surface, it does not show and marks, scuffs, etc. but when you play it, there is some surface noise. As an early Savoy 10 inch, it could be the pressing or the recording tape, but I can’t list it as M- or EX, which the condition appears to be. There is no real sign of wear in or around the spindle hole on either side and the vinyl still retains its original luster. The record jacket is in excellent condition, with no taped seams.
