VARIOUS ARTISTS "TOUJOURS CHIC! More French Girl Singers Of The 1960s" (Big Beat HIQLP 036)
Brand new limited edition LP pressed on 180gram LAVENDER VINYL!
Star of the show is series debutante Laura Ulmer, who contributes an adorable track from what would have been the finest of her four EPs, had its release not been cancelled at the test pressing stage. Also new to the series are Fabienne with a cool jazz-tinged number, “it girl” Zouzou with a Marianne Faithfull-influenced folk rock tune, Charlotte Walters with her esoteric cult favourite ‘Angel Of Sin’, and Brian Jones lookalike Stone with a groovy pop-psych nugget, 'Le Nénuphar'.
Girl-pop buffs with a penchant for psychedelia should dig Delphine’s ‘Les Prisons De Sa Majesté’ with its prominent sitar, while those who prefer their yé-yé more traditional might go for ‘La Guerre Des Chansons’ by France Gall or Sheila’s ‘A La Fin De La Soirée’, her cover of the Exciters’ ‘We Were Lovers (When The Party Began)’. Other highlights include Annie Philippe’s terrific ‘Pour La Gloire’ and Pussycat’s Spectoresque ‘Cette Nuit’.
Factory-sealed from new with inner bag.
