ILLÉS "Goodbye, London" (Kept Alive KAR LP 011)
Brand new limited 2nd edition vinyl LP—only 300 copies pressed!
Imagine you are living in a Communist country that had not only fought on the "wrong" side of both World Wars, but also lost two thirds of its territory and some ten million people dropping out of its new boundaries (after the First World War), had one million dead and had its capital eventually destroyed (during the Second World War). Even more, it has just recently lost its own national revolution against Soviet Communist rule in 1956.
Well, you are in 60s-70s Hungary, in some sense sitting in the very middle of Europe, in another sense just behind the Iron Curtain. You want to do rock music. What will be the result? Listen and find out!
Due to their local impact, Illés were sometimes dubbed 'The Hungarian Beatles'... The band started in 1957 as a family music band. After many member changes (and also musical changes), the final line up was formed in 1965 and they started to write their own songs, many of which appeared in films. After many 7" singles and co-productions, their first own LP was released in 1968. "Goodbye, London" is an unreleased 1970 LP; the project was banned by the Communist authorities. Its tracks were released here and there during the years, but the album as a whole remained unreleased. Its unique story is revealed in the liner notes included.
Factory-sealed from new in hand-numbered sleeve—direct from the label!
