For sale is a vinyl record by Johnny Mathis titled "Johnny Mathis", originally released in 1956 by Columbia Records. This is the original first pressing with the six CBS logos, three on each side of the center hole, that look like "Eyes" around the edges of the labels. They are commonly called "6-Eye" Columbia labels and are sought out by collectors for their excellent sound quality. I bought this record used, professionally cleaned it on my VPI HW-17 machine and immediately put the record into an archival inner sleeve. I always put my new records directly into a protective inner sleeve, thus preserving the integrity of the vinyl and any insert or original inner sleeve that came with the original release. There is no original inner sleeve with this listing. Inside the dead wax, between the last tracks and the labels is etched the matrix numbers 1-B/1-C, indicating that early stampers were used to make this record. The vinyl is visually graded as Near Mint Minus, with surfaces that are still shiny and bright, in a like-new condition, with only one very faint superficial surface scratch across "Autumn In Rome", but otherwise without any smudges, scuffs or spindle marks on the labels. I'm play grading this album as Near Mint Minus, because of ultra low level background noise, barely noticeable except during the quietest sections of playback and an occasional tic, but  without any pops, lock-ups or skips from start to finish. The laminated cover is graded as Very Good because of a 1 1/2 inch seam split on the top seam, along with minor corner blunts, one of which has begun to fray with a bit of paper loss. The cover still has the origial shine and luster with its vivid colors, giving it a like-new appearance. The spine has a bit of damage to the corners from these blunts. It's been played only on Audiophile equipment since I bought it and still has a lot of life yet. This is the best copy of this very rare album that I have ever seen or heard and you would be hard pressed to find another original 6-Eye Columbia record like this one. This would make a great addition to a anyone's collection. I have other Pop albums, as well as records of all different genres, listed in my Ebay store. Please take a look. They're predominately Near Mint. Thank you for viewing my listing.    I've been collecting records for about 50 years now and have always cleaned them and put them away carefully in plastic inner sleeves. Over the years I've used Dust Bugs, Disc Washers and have finally invested in a professional VPI record cleaning machine. Now that I'm retiring, I'm selling my very esoteric collection. I'm not a professional grader of records, but will use record guides, as well as my personal experiences as a basis of my grading all records. Since grading is subjective, I will be conservative. I offer discounts for multiple sales. Photos are of the actual item for sale, not a stock photo. Please review all descriptions and photos because I do not accept returns. Thank you for looking!
