THE VELVET UNDERGROUND & NICO Torso MONO WEST COAST 1967 with censored sticker.
West coast pressing as indicated by the Side A and Side B as opposed to Side 1 and Side 2 on East coast pressings.
1st U.S. MONO edition with super thick cardboard cover and half the banana intact. The censor sticker is fully intact. The sticker is covering Warhol factory actor Eric Emerson who demanded payment for being featured on the cover. He was refused this so the sticker was placed over his image. The image was later airbrushed over, and this is the most common version for subsequent releases o this iconic record. This is a true first pressing with censored cover.
Vinyl has been fully tested for sound, I listened to the entire album on headphones and it sounds ibcredible. MONO is the way to go for this title, it is much fuller and louder and more detailed in Mono. The stereo versions sounds thin and quiet compared to the Mono.
The West Coast pressings are also known for being a bit louder than the East coast pressings. I have compared the two and this is definitely the case. This is an advantage because the Verve vinyl of the time was pretty noisy overall, and mastering the record louder alleviated a lot of the background noise from the poorer quality vinyl used.
This version has the infamous volume adjustment at the beginning of "Venus In Furs", where the song starts quieter than the rest of the record, then is turned up to regular volume. This is present in every version I have heard. This is not present on East Coast pressings.
VINYL in VG/VG+ condition. Closer to VG++ in parts, but I always ere on caution as far as grading goes. A few light fee-lable hairlines only on the beginning of Side 2 with repeating click for 50 seconds, then lighter click for another 20 seconds then stops. I listened to the entire record on a nice set of headphones and sounds excellent!!! Full bass. shimmering guitars, this thing rocks!!!!
COVER in VG with half the banana present. The bottom of the banana was removed then placed back at some point, looks good but there is a crease. Cutout on bottom corner. There is a "S" cutout on the lower right corner that can be seen on the front and back covers (see photos). I have never seen this stamp before, may indicate a Santa Maria Las Angeles pressing? chipping on bottom seams though fully solid and not split. The top seams have chipping and a split almost entirely covering the top seam. The spine is solid with some rubbing, the title is fully readable on the spine.
Split on inside of gatefold. This is common for these pressings for what I have seen (see photos). The split is also visible on the back cover where it meets the spine. The back cover has a corner crease on the upper left hand side that is visible on the sticker. Overall nice presentation with a white background that is still vibrant and not too much yellowing or staining.
LP will be mailed in proper mailer with record removed to prevent more splitting. Shipped Priority Mail USPS domestic shipping. I charge for Media Mail, but will pay the difference to ship Priority mail so the record will arrive safely and quickly. I offer Priority International mail or the Global Shipping Program.
