NAT KING COLE

“A MIS AMIGOS”

(TO MY FRIENDS)

MEGARARE and HARD TO FIND original CAPITOL Records second High Fidelity Long Playing Microgroove MONO press with ALTERNATE COVER released in Chile in 1962 by Capitol Records, made and distributed by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile), licensed from Capitol Records Inc., USA, with catalog number W-1220, with machine etched matrix numbers 1-1220-V2  S1 (the Scranton plant stamp) 815 (“15” inverted and “8” maybe not an “8”) in Side 1 and 2-1220-V2 (“V” inverted) ≠2 S4 (the Scranton plant stamp) S18 (“S18” inverted and “8” maybe not an “8”) in Side 2, with bright red/silver Capitol Records labels. It’s very interesting to notice that in this case the catalog number used in Chile for this record keeps the original Mono Capitol Records catalog number. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“A MIS AMIGOS” was originally released in 1959 and we had to wait until 1962 to see this interesting Spanish and Portuguese-sung album released here in Chile, with the same original artwork, but we also got a second issue with an ALTERNATE COVER released in 1962 and like so many times in that period that cover is made of two single pieces of a very thin cardboard with two sheets of paper for front and back cover kept held by an outer plastic bag which’s also part of the cover. As you can see this alternate cover has an UNIQUE PICTURE SLEEVE with the name of Nat King Cole, the album title and tracklist in the middle and Capitol Records logo at the bottom edge. Back cover is blank!!! Yes Sirs, as you can see it’s a blank cardboard with Capitol Records logo at the bottom, with information about Odeon Record Chile, catalog number at top right corner and album title in Spanish and English written vertically at top right edge. In labels the tracklist is also only in Spanish and Portuguese with full credits for songwriters or adaptations but you can see some differences, in the traditional Chilean folk song “Yo Vendo Unos Ojos Negros”, adapted by Cole and Schluger in original US issue, in Chile it’s informed the arrangements by O. Silva, Olimpia Silva, one of the members of the Chilean band Los 4 Hermanos Silva, the song “El Choclo”, also informed as adaptation by Cole and Schluger in original issue, in Chile it’s informed the songwriters, Villoldo, Discepolo and Catán. And the song “Ansiedad” is credited to “Roberto “Tito” Mendoza in original issue, but the name of the songwriter is José Enrique Sarabia Rodríguez, known as Chelique Sarabia. In label, in Side 1, is printed the price of the record, E°7, with a paper glued over the original wrong price printed in label. So, here you have the chance an interesting album by Nat King Cole singing in Spanish and Portuguese with an UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE ALTERNATE PICTURE SLEEVE, BLANK BACK COVER and CORRECT CREDITS FOR SONGS!!! WOW!!! AMAZING FIND AGAIN!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in EX or EX+ condition the front cover, clean and clear, no missing parts, no ring marks, no writings, no bends, minimal creases and wear, with a white sticker with the number “8” some past owner glued at top right corner, and in VG or VG+ condition the back cover, clean and clear, with only minimal wear in corners, some age browning and yellow/brown blemishes. The outer plastic bag is complete and clean, with only little rips, more evident where someone had to open the bag to glue that white sticker. The record is in great VG or VG+ condition both sides, glossy and clean, but with many scuffs, soft hairlines and light scratches, which don’t affect play. Labels on both sides are in great VG+ or EX- condition, clean and clear, with some spindle hole wear and the same white sticker with the number “8” written in Side 1. The sound is a nice surprise, it’s in great VG+ or EX- condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, with some soft background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), light crackles and very soft pops here and there, which don’t cause any distraction from the experience to listen and enjoy this album from the beginning to the end. Overall it’s a great record with a very nice look after about 59 years, great labels and still amazing sound quality, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean issue!!! A classic album of Nat King Cole, with UNIQUE COVER and UNIQUE ALTERNATE PICTURE SLEEVE only used here in Chile. A MUST TO HAVE!!! Yes Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

___________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
