Hi! You are bidding on For the Sake of the Song, the debut album by the Texas singer/songwriter legend Townes Van Zandt. The album was released in 1968 by Poppy Records, catalog number PYS-40,001. The album is in good plus to very good condition. Side one has light surface noise, most noticeably between tracks. There is also a very small piece of torn vinyl at the extreme outside edge of side one of the record, so the tone arm has to be manually placed on the second or third groove of the outside edge. There is a very long lead in to the first track. The jutting up piece can probably be filed down, but you'd still need to manually lower the tone arm
On side two, there is a very noticeable pop (and possibly a one groove skip) toward the end of "Sad Cinderella." As with side one, it also has light surface noise, mostly between tracks.
The record label and the record jacket are both misprinted. "All Your Young Servants" is track four, not track five. "Talkin' Karate Blues" is track five, not track four.
The record jacket is in very good condition. There is a "bullet hole" at the lower left, and there are a couple of scratches on the front, near the outside edge. The front also has very light ring wear.
Songs are (in the correct order):
SIDE ONE
For the Sake of the Song Tecumseh Valley Many a Fine Lady Quick Silver Daydreams of Maria Waitin' Around to Die
SIDE TWO:
I'll Be There in the Morning Sad Cinderella The Velvet Voices All Your Young Servants Talkin' Karate Blues Sixteen Summers, Fifteen Falls
If you are familiar with the canon of Townes' work, this album is unlike most of his later work. "For the Sake of the Song" sounds like it should have appeared on a Jimmy Buffett album, and "Tecumseh Valley" is jammed in to two minutes and 40 seconds, with noticeably different lyrics. I don't think that "Sixteen Summers, Fifteen Falls" ever appeard on another of Townes' albums during his lifetime.
Winning bidder to pay $3.82 media rate postage in the U.S. Personal cheque preferred; there is no holding period for cheques. Please e-mail with any questions.
Good luck, and thanks for looking!
