Brand new sealed item, this one is a piece of history! Copies of the album were mailed to Soviet and US leaders during the Cold War.

In the fall of 1986, the Rev. John T. McDonough hired teacher/musician Patrick O'Shea at St. Sebastian Elementary School in Akron, Ohio. O'Shea, who had previously worked at St. Martha Elementary in Akron, had led the recording of two albums there. And he brought the concept with him to St. Sebastian, where the album "Through the Eyes of the Children (Peace is Possible)" was recorded in a project that involved the entire school. The album arrived in the spring of 1987.

Notable tracks included the eighth-grade class recording of "Peer Pressure," a Christian-themed rap that drew its musical inspiration from Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys and featured a beat-boxing solo from student Brant Smith. Another song, "Dear Mr. Gorbachev," was a rewrite of "Dear Mr. President," a musical open letter to President Reagan sung during O'Shea's St. Martha years. Copies of the albums were shipped to the Soviet and U.S. leaders. The seventh-grade class recorded "Nicol," a ballad to a girl with autism with whom several of the classmates volunteered their time as peer advocates. The album's title track, written by eighth-grader Joe Thomas and inspired by the music of Billy Joel and the intro to "60 Minutes," was performed by the entire school. And the finale, "All We Want is Peace," drew musical inspiration from John Lennon's "Imagine."

Local interest in this album, released in vinyl and cassette formats, has been renewed recently with the passage of more than 20 years since the release.
