JOE COCKER

“WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS”

(CON UNA AYUDITA DE MIS AMIGOS)

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Odeon Records very first MONO SAMPLE-STAMPED press released, made and distributed in Chile in 1970 by INDUSTRIAS ELECTRICAS Y MUSICALES ODEON S.A. Records (ODEON Records, an EMI company), catalog number LDC-36741, with hand etched matrix numbers XCARX-55 1 in Side A and XCARX-56 1 in Side B, with green/black Odeon Records, with big boxed “Odeon” and small boxed “EMI”. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND!!! And see the pictures, this record is in superb condition!!!

“WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS” was originally released in 1969 after the success of Joe Cocker in Woodstock, but we have to wait in Chile until 1970 to see this record released here and like in so many cases of the period, we got it with and UNIQUE COVER!!! Yes!!! In Chile the cover is made of two single sheets of heavy paper (or thin cardboard) kept together by an outer plastic bag which’s part of the cover. Front cover keeps strictly the original artwork but with the Emi and Odeon logos as 2 separate boxes in the upper left corner of the picture and the title of the album with additional translation to Spanish above the picture (Con una ayudita de mis amigos – Tema incluido en la Película “Woodstock”, which is in English: With a little help from my friends – Theme included in the movie “Woodstock”). Back cover is different, it shows a set of 8 pictures of Joe Cocker in the middle and Henry McCullough, Matthew Fisher, Jimmy Page, Chris Stainton, B.J.Wilson, Steve Winwood and Mike Kellie, as you must know in this album Joe Cocker gets a “little help” from some of his friends, with the tracklist written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits for songwriters and musicians of each song. In labels the album title is written in Spanish only and the tracklist is written in English only, with full credits for songwriters and producers.

Yes, yes, yes… Here it’s another REAL FIND, another rarity from South America!!! And this is even rarer because it has green big boxed Odeon logo labels with black text (the very first press!!!). WOW!!! And in both sides is stamped “MUESTRA SIN VALOR COMERCIAL” (SAMPLE WITHOUT COMMERCIAL VALUE). And more about this copy, this is the complete Sample-stamped issue with the little sticker (not really sticker, only a little paper “floating” free between the plastic and the cardboard) “NOVEDAD” (NOVELTY) in yellow paper with black lettering. Yes, see the pictures, this is the complete very first press released in Chile in superb condition and complete, with the outer plastic bag and the “NOVEDAD” sticker (not really sticker) and sample stamp in both labels!!! Remember, “WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS” was released in Chile in 1970 and it has an UNIQUE COVER and the record I’m selling now it’s not the common issue, this is the MEGARARE SAMPLE-STAMPED BIG-BOXED ODEON LOGO LABEL WITH BLACK TEXT!!! And more, this is the complete issue, with the outer plastic bag and the little paper “NOVEDAD” I already described!!! WHAT A FIND!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in NM or NM+ condition both the front and back cover, clean, no missing parts, no ring marks, no creases, no marks of any kind. The outer plastic bag is also complete and in NM- or NM condition, no rips, no marks, almost perfect. The record is in superb NM- or NM condition, glossy, clean, only minimal scuffs and a light scratch hard to see in Side 2 which obviously don’t affect sound at all. Labels on both sides are in NM- or NM condition, clean and clear. The sound is amazing!!! It’s in superb EX+ or NM- the Side A, clear, loud, no background noise (background noise was normal in most of records pressed in Chile), only a pair of soft pops in the first song of Side 1, but a really great sound anyway, and in EX or EX+ condition the Side B, only because at the end of the song “With a little help from my friends” it has some soft pops, which of curse don’t cause major distraction. I’d recommend a vacuum cleaning, I’m sure those soft pops are caused by some dust or debris in the grooves I’ve not could remove. If we don’t consider those soft pops the sound would be in NM- or NM condition. Overall, this record is in an amazing condition, with a superb cover, a fabulous look with the outer plastic bag almost intact and amazing sound quality after about 52 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! WOW!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the cover and labels in detail.

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
