Led Zeppelin - ii

(Atlantic 588198 UK LP 1969)

This is the very earliest UK LP pressing. It has the "Livin' Lovin' Wreck (She's Just A Woman)" credit on Side 2's label. This was rectified on all subsequent pressings to "Livin' Lovin' Maid". The sleeve also has a green colouration on the spine. Again, only the very 1st UK pressings have this sleeve variation. Unfortunately, this is a heavily played copy. Therefore, it is a "collection filler" copy. However, it plays with no jumps or skips. This LP very hard to find nowadays.

The LP has a heavyweight matt gatefold sleeve. As stated, there is a green tint to the brown areas of the spine. Interestingly, on this copy. there is also a green tinged strip along the front top edge too (see photo). I've not seen this before. It comes with its original polythene lined company inner sleeve. The record is pressed on thick vinyl & has red & maroon "Atlantic" labels. As stated, Side 2's label has the "Livin' Lovin' Wreck" credit. The record has 1st press A-2/ B-2 matrix stampers.

Gatefold Sleeve: There is considerable rubbing wear to the top & bottom edges. This has caused a 5 cm seam split along the bottom edge of the rear sleeve. This is at the sleeve opening area. There is moderate to considerable rubbing wear to the front and rear spine edges. Some of the spine text is still visible. Although there is heavy rubbing wear to the spine, you can clearly see the green tint to the brown coloured parts. There is mild, very mild or more moderate ringwear & rubbing wear on some areas of the front & rear sleeve. There is moderate to considerable rubbing wear to the corner tips. There is an 8 cm seam split at the centre of the bottom edge of the rear sleeve. Overall, Fair+ condition

Vinyl: As stated, this is a heavily played copy. There are some moderate to considerable sleeve rubs, or surface rub marks, which can be seen under a strong light. There are about 8 hairline surface marks. These measure from 1 cm to 9 cm in length. There is a very small pressing on the same area on both sides. This doesn't notice that much. Overall, Fair+ condition. The labels are in Good+ condition. There is some mild, very mild or more moderate foxing. This only really notices when angles a certain way under a strong light. There is a very small finger-tip sized stain on Side 1's label. There is mild to more moderate spindle wear. The company inner sleeve is in Very Good+ condition. There is some light, mild or very mild ringwear, fading & creasing. There are no seam splits.

I have fully play tested this LP. It plays Good to Good+ overall. There is mild, very mild or more moderate crackle in the background to a varying degree. There are some areas of moderate crackle. It never completely overpowers the music. There no noticeable loud clicks or pops. Although this is a bit of a crackly copy. This LP would definitely benefit from a professional clean. The crackle, in the main, is just due to deep down dirt in the grooves. It should play considerably better after a deep down groove clean.
