LED ZEPPELIN

“VOL. I”

(“Led Zeppelin” or “First” or “I”)

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Atlantic Records second STEREO press released by Atlantic Records, made and distributed in Chile in 1977 by Asociación Fonográfica Nacional “ASFONA”, M.R. (ASFONA Records), licensed from Atlantic Records, U.S.A., catalog number SD-8216, with hand etched matrix numbers in Side A and SD-8216-B MSM-CD in Side B, with traditional red/black Atlantic Records labels of the period. It’s interesting to notice that in the deadwax of both sides it’s written the exact day of pressing, “6-7-77” (July 6th of 1977) in Side A and “7-7-77” (July 7th of 1977) in Side B. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

“Led Zeppelin” is the debut album by Led Zeppelin, it was originally released on Atlantic Records in January 1969 in USA and in March 1969 in the UK, and we had to wait until 1970 to see this legendary rock album released here in Chile and as you could already know that issue has the error “Led SEPPELIN” in labels and not many copies were pressed, only about 300-500. After the success of the next albums by Led Zeppelin in Chile, the debut album was reissued as part of the ASFONA Records collection called “SERIE ESPECIAL DE LUJO” (Deluxe Special Serie) and we got an UNIQUE flipback cover, made of 2 single pieces of thin cardboard with front cover pasted on the flips of back cover. Front cover keeps strictly the original US artwork, with the name “Led Zeppelin” yellow and the ASFONA Records logo at the top right corner. Back cover is UNIQUE, it keeps the original artwork of front cover, black and white, with the tracklist written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits for songwriters only for songs in Side A. In labels, the album title is “Led Zeppelin Vol. I”, the tracklist is written in English, translated to Spanish, with full credits for songwriters. In this Chilean reissue of 1977 all the errors of the original issue of 1970 were corrected but it’s curious to see that most of song titles in Spanish were modified. So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS of this classic rock album by Led Zeppelin, with UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE BACK COVER DESIGN and UNIQUE ALBUM TITLE, a MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Led Zeppelin and hard/progressive rock!!! Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from this side of the world!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in nice G+ or VG- condition, clean and complete, fully readable, but with severe wear in all edges and corners, with tape in all edges and partial seam splits at top edge and spine, the tape at bottom edge was put there because the flap was unglued, with also many creases and little rips in the mouth edge, with evident age browning and some faint blemishes, light ring marks and the fact that some past owner used a purple pen to paint the zeppelin in front and back covers, but it doesn’t affect much the look considering the original color is black. The record is in nice VG- or VG condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many scuffs, light hairlines and soft scratches of all sizes and in all directions, which don’t affect play at all. Labels on both sides are in great EX+ or NM- condition, clean and clear, with only some spindle hole wear. The sound is in strong VG or VG+ condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with soft constant crackles and some occasional light clicks and pops here and there, more evident in the quiet parts of songs and in the first seconds of Side B, which of course don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, this is a great record, sure not for Minty minds or audiophiles, but sure it’s still a record with a nice glossy look, almost immaculate labels and with still a great sound quality after about 46 years, which won’t disappoint anyone and will satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean reissue of “Led Zeppelin” debut album!!! WOW!!! And keep in mind the UNIQUE COVER, the UNIQUE BACK COVER ARTWORK and UNIQUE ALBUM TITLE and even the date of pressing written in the deadwax!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

_________________________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
