RAY CHARLES
“LO MEJOR DE RAY CHARLES”
(THE BEST OF RAY CHARLES)
MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original ABC Records very first MONO press released, made and distributed in Chile in 1970 by Asociación Fonográfica Nacional “ASFONA” M.R. (ASFONA Records), under license from PRODISA S.R.L., Argentina, catalog number ABC-601, with machine etched matrix numbers ABCM 601 1 1S in Side 1 and ABCM 601 2 1S in Side 2, with yellow/black ABC Records labels. A more than interesting fact to observe in this album is the catalog number, because those years all the ABC Records albums released in Chile kept the same original catalog number, as you can check in the other “ABC” albums recommended in back cover of this issue, but “ABC-601” was NEVER the ABC catalog number for any Ray Charles album, “ABC-601” is the catalog number for an album by Vic Garcia, as you can check in this link: . Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!
“LO MEJOR DE RAY CHARLES” seems to be an exclusive compilation album of the “ABC” years of Ray Charles but considering it’s licensed from an Argentinian company, it’s very probable the catalog number error was made in the original Argentinian issue if it exists. But what’s clear here it’s that like many cases of that period we got this album with and UNIQUE COVER!!! The cover is made of a single piece of thin cardboard folded in the middle, so 3 sides are open and kept held for a plastic bag, and single sheets of paper as front and back cover attached to the cardboard in the mouth edge side. Front cover is very simple, it’s an orange paper with white lettering and album title and tracklist written in Spanish only, with ABC Records logo at top left corner and catalog number at top right corner. Back cover has the album title written in Spanish only and tracklist written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters. As already informed it also has 4 albums recommended, 2 of them by Ray Charles, 1 by Louis Armstrong and 1 by Tommy Roe. In labels the album title is written only in Spanish and tracklist written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters. It’s interesting to notice that song “HACIENDO WHOOPEE”, correctly translated “Makin’ Whoopee” in back cover, it’s misspelled “MAKIN WHOOPEE” in label!!! So, here you have the chance to own this exclusive compilation album of Ray Charles with an UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE ARTWORK and UNIQUE ERRORS!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for fans and collector of Ray Charles!!!
The cover was already described and it’s in great VG or VG+ condition the front cover, clean and clear, with some wear in the edges and corners, clearly evident in the mouth edge which has many little rips and creases, marks of humidity at left side and a name written at top right corner, and in EX- or EX condition the back cover, clean and clear, with moderate age browning, clearly evident in the mouth edge, marks of humidity, more evident in bottom left corner. The record is in superb VG+ or EX- condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many scuffs and hairlines and some light scratches, which of course don’t affect play. Labels are in NM or NM+ condition both sides, clean and clear, with no faults at all. The sound is the best part because it’s really great, it’s in EX or EX+ condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only some very light occasional crackles and hiss here and there, which don’t distract at all from the great sound of this record, most of songs play in absolute NM condition. Overall a great record with a still nice look and great sound quality after about 53 years, which shouldn’t disappoint anyone who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean issue. A MUST TO HAVE for all Ray Charles collectors!!! And remember the UNIQUE COVER, the UNIQUE TRACKLIST, the UNIQUE ERRORS and the UNIQUE ABC Records catalog number!!! Yes Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!
Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…
Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile
_____________________________________________
We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.
MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.
NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new
condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some
very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The
cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in
like perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is
very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t
affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays
no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and
the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,
without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has
noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The
cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits,
discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly
and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface
noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK
We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
