THE JAGUARS / EMANUEL LASKEY "The Gorilla" b/w "The Monkey" (Cuero Records CR-45009)
Brand new limited edition vinyl 7"—only 450 copies pressed!
Cuero Records have once again knocked it out of the park with this release! Get ready to have your wig removed and your tights singed, possibly at the SAME TIME!!
The Jaguars were from San Jose, California. "The Gorilla" (owing a little to the Shandells' DEMENTED '64 cut, "Gorilla") was originally issued on their own Jaguar label in 1966 (home to the legendary Venus Flytrap, who released the astonishing psychedelic masterpiece "Have You Ever" in '67), before being picked up for national release by Dot. Emanuel Lask(e)y released "The Monkey" as his debut 45 in September '63, on the Detroit-based Thelma label (run by Motown founder Berry Gordy's sister, Thelma), and was backed by The Ohio Untouchables on this particular session.
Superbly presented in a screen-printed die-cut sleeve!
