For sale is a superior original (not a repress) example of rare Northern Soul 45 "You Can't Keep A Good Man Down / It Won't Hurt" by The Gentlemen Four, on the Wand label, WND 1184. DJ Copy with original Wand sleeve. Matrix # 50800-1B + an indecipherable scribble that possibly looks like a "JU" in cursive on "You Can't Let A Good Man Down" side. 50801-1A plus same "JU" like scribbe on "It Won't Hurt" side. CONDITION: Black magic marker "X" and date "7/17/68" written on the label of "You Can't Keep A Good Man Down" side. Labels otherwise exhibit light wear. Vinyl rates NM.
Here is a spectacularly clean example of this rare 45, from the collection of a Washington D.C.-area DJ who ran a radio station from the basement of his home in the mid to late-1960s, and kept all of the promotional records he received from record labels in superb condition in nine filing cabinets. Please see my other listings now and in the weeks ahead as I sell off the rest of the records I bought from his estate. This week I am selling a truly special undocumented Northern Soul 45 by The Sugarplums that may be the best discovery of them all, as it is an instant classic and, as yet, is the only known copy. Give it a listen if you have the chance!
