THE PLATTERS

SIDE A:     EL GRAN SIMULADOR

                  (The Great Pretender)

SIDE B:     QUIERO

                  (I Wanna)

MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original Mercury Records very first Mono press released by Mercury Records, made and distributed by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (not credited) in Chile in 1958, catalog number 7_14002, with machine etched matrix numbers MDMERC-3 YW 12070 in Side A and MDMERC 4 YW 11546 in Side B, with traditional blue/silver Mercury Records labels of the period and large center, with big silver “Mercury” and logo at top. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!

The Great Pretender” was originally released in USA late 1955 by The Platters and it became an immediate worldwide hit. For sure this single was also released in Chile in the period, so I’m sure this Chilean single released in 1958 isn’t the first time this song was released in Chile but for sure it’s the very first 7” single. Song titles are written in Spanish, translated to English, with full credits for songwriters, play time of each song and original price, “$800.-”, printed in Side A. The song in Side B in this Chilean issue is “I Wanna” and as far as I know this single with these songs was ONLY RELEASED IN CHILE!!! So, here you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE and UNIQUE CHILEAN PRESS of this classic hit by The Platters, a record almost never seen in this very first Chilean 7” issue and maybe auctioned here in eBay by the very first time. WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans and collectors of The Platters and pre-Rock’N’Roll Doo Wop/R&B music of the ‘50’s!!!

This record doesn’t have a cover. The record is in nice VG- or VG condition both sides, glossy and clean, with many soft scuffs, hairlines and light scratches, which don’t affect play at all. Labels are in VG or VG+ condition both sides, clear and clean, with some spindle hole wear, small tears, writings hard to see at first sight and residues of a sticker in Side B. The sound is in strong VG or VG+ condition the Side A, loud, clear and clean, virtually no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant soft crackles and occasional light clicks, and in VG- or VG condition the Side B, with constant soft crackles and regular hiss and some occasional light clicks, which don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clear sound this record keeps from the beginning to the end. Overall, for sure this record is not for Minty minds or audiophiles, but it keeps a nice glossy look, clear and fully readable labels and a very decent and respectable sound quality after about 66 years, which won’t disappoint anyone and will satisfy any serious collector who knows the level of rarity this Chilean single with Spanish-written song titles!!! Yes, Sirs, what a FIND!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

___________________________________________

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
