Jefferson Airplane Surrealistic Pillow US 1967 RCA Mono VG
Cover: VG. Typical wear of items of this vintage and popularity with corner bumps and scuffing. Overall, nice appearance and most seams are solid, but spines have scuffing of varying degrees. Top spine is great, side title spine has some paper loss and fraying (see photos) but most of artist and title are readable. Bottom spine has some scuffing, but most of the issues there are nearer the corner(left hand on front sleeve)where you have some extra paper loss and fraying of cardboard at that point. Very little to no ringwear on either side of sleeve, some cardboard indentions at seams underneath the artwork slicks.
Disc: Visually VG : under bright light, there about 20-30 hairline scratches scattered evenly throughout the surfaces of both sides, none feelable. Glossy. Reasonably enjoyed and used by original owner, but not abused.
Audio: Strong VG(Side 1)/VG+(Side 2). Side 1: At the first needledrop at the lead-in groove area, against a pretty quiet background, there is a quick quiet bit of static before "She Has Funny Cars" begins ,followed soon afterward by a skip which cause a jump forward (not a repeat). In between the end of that songs and the next, "Somebody To Love", the noise level has picked up to 1 out of 10 (10 being the worst). At that track's end and before "My Best Friend", it has picked up to 3 out of 10 and remains so for the rest of the side. This is noticeable at the beginnings of "Today" and 'Comin' Back To Me" which both start with one acoustic guitar alone. When the rest of the instruments join in ,it becomes hardly noticeable.
Side 2: quick static period at lead-in groove which quiets down to a noise level of 1 out of 10 well before "3/5 Of A Mile In 10 Seconds" begins. The remainder of the side is also great, with noise levels in between tracks ranging from 0.5-1 out of 10 for the entire side.
The mono mix may be a surprise for those who have yet to hear it-especially from years of classic rock and oldies play of the Stereo mix of "Somebody To Love" which is drenched in reverb. This mix is comparatively dry overall, but "Today" still is awash in the echo as it always was.
