READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
So with that said…
Beatles LP 1965 The Early Beatles STEREO Decca Consignment Pressing in Shrink, EX!
As collectors well know, MONO was outselling STEREO records 4 to 1 in 1965, making them 4 times rarer than their MONO counterparts to begin with. Consignment pressings were not manufactured in the same quantities as Capitol discs, and were mainly MONO to begin with.
STEREO consignment pressings from the early 1960’s of Beatles albums are by their nature, VERY hard to find.
And then, you add the layer of condition issues…
Vinyl--- EX/EX. Both sides have some of that “cloudy” manufacturer’s defects, plus a stray light line or so.
Plates--- W3P/W3P. The added letter was designate of Decca pressings, rather than the use of an insignia in the dead wax.
Cover--- VG++. Just this side of EX. Front cover has remained surprisingly white after 60 years! Back cover has uniformly yellowed a little bit, the heaviest being down the mouth. Top seam has a small breach in the shrink near the spine, which allowed some dirt through, not very much.
VERY nice cover, overall.
Breathe Holes--- There are two breathe holes on the front cover. One is in the Capitol logo, and the other is due south in Ringo’s hair.
Labels--- NM/NM. Flat, no gloss labels are terrifically resistant to wear. Labels look 1965-brand new. NO SPINDLE MARKS.
**Concentric ring on the labels are closer to the playhole than Capitol releases are. Labels are flat against the vinyl, whereas Capitol labels are raised. These are the markings of Decca lathes.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX. Original Olive Green Capitol inner sleeve is present. Apart from one center bottom split about one inch long, this sleeve looks 1965-brand new also.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 3
If your Beatles collector insists upon owning a catalogue in the shrink with beautiful vinyl, this copy should be under the tree. Consignment stereo copies are too hard and too frustrating to find in nice condition.
Here’s their keeper.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
Note: All LP’s ship outside of their album covers in order not to damage the covers during shipment.
CAUTION! There has been a startling increase in bidders canceling their bids. A word to the wise, I have started blocking any and all bidders who retract their bids regardless of the reason.
Please don’t bid unless you’re willing to honor your amount, okay? Thanks!
(Please note: Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized. The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle. Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix? Thanks!)
