 (M) The record is brand new with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. Mint (M)Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed.  The jacket and any extra items are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT

Near Mint (NM or M-) A nearly perfect record. Many dealers won't give a grade higher than this implying (perhaps correctly)that no record is ever truly perfect.

The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.

An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar defects. No cut-out holes, either. And of course, the same should be true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves and the like.

Basically, an LP in near mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.

(EX) The record shows signs of having been played but there is negligible loss in sound quality. The jacket may have slight wear or creasing. VERY GOOD

(VG) The record has been played many times but shows no significant deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks. Normal wear and tear on the jacket, without any major defects, is acceptable. GOOD

 (G) The record has been played enough that the sound quality has deteriorated noticeably and may have light pops and skip. The jacket may suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits or discoloration. GOOD

 (F) The record is playable but was not properly cared for and plays with extensive surface noise overriding sound and may skip considerably. The jacket may be torn, stained or defaced. FAIR

(B) The record is unplayable and probably broken and is only of use as a collection filler.
