The Fine Print – re: Vinyl LPs

I will ship internationally only through ebay's shipping center and only to the “lower 48” in the US.

PayPal only – payment required within 24 hours.

Please email me with questions-- no returns.

I ship within 3 days of your payment, usually sooner.

All photos are of the item you're bidding on; I describe as accurately as I can— between my photos and description AND your questions, my goal is that there be no surprises; you'll know exactly what you're bidding on.

Let me know if, for any reason, you feel you can't leave all "5s" and all positive feedback. I'll work with you if there are issues. And please do take a couple of minutes and leave positive feedback! It really does matter to sellers and buyers alike.

For records, I will combine shipping if you win more than one auction in same timeframe (within 12 hours) -- I can ship up to 4 discs + their covers in one box, for $4.00, to same address in the lower 48.

The Record Grading System I Use

I grade most records visually. I look at the record surface under a strong light, and with 40 years of experience playing and enjoying albums, so you'll know what to expect for sound. I do NOT clean and play-grade, unless noted in the listing.

Mint (M) I only give this grade if the record is sealed and labeled as from a record store from its era. Records can be re-sealed, so beware the “sealed” record which has no pricing label or retail sticker.

Near Mint (NM or NM-) Vinyl Nearly perfect. This is my “go-to” grade for a record in truly great condition. No obvious defects or signs of wear. Near-mint records from the golden age of vinyl are, because of the decades since their manufacture, somewhat scarce and the pricing for records of sought-after bands or performers, often reflects this. I have been a careful collector and listener for 40 years, and many of my records truly are “NM” or “NM-”

Near Mint (NM or NM-) Cover has no folds or bends, no seams are split, and there are no other noticeable defects including the small round holes or snipped corners which signify a “cut-out” (a record that was no longer in active distribution by the label—cut-outs are exactly like any other record, except that they were not then a part of the record company's catalogue.) A “NM” or NM-” cover looks like you just brought it home and took off the shrink-wrap.

Excellent (EX) Vinyl A record that was carefully handled and taken care of. Surface may have very mild scuffs, minor imperfections, or light scratches which are NOT likely to affect listening. In my opinion, an EX record is a great record – very few minor issues, and nothing that detracts from your enjoyment.

Excellent (EX) Covermay have slight bends to corners, no significant seam damage – may be a “cut-out” – see above. In my opinion, an EX cover is a great cover – very few minor imperfections and nothing that detracts from looking at and enjoying the artwork, text, etc.

Very Good (VG) Vinyl from a fellow ebay-er whose site I can no longer locate, regarding the “Very Good” grade: “With a 'Very Good' record, surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, or light scratches (deep enough to feel with the pad of your finger) that will affect the sound – but in moderate ways – the record is still enjoyable to listen to.

Very Good (VG) Coverthe cover may have bends or significant edge wear or scuffing. May have tape, writing or stickers (or their residue) attached. May have seam damage. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.”

(Good (G) or Fair (F) Vinyl A record with this grade will be noisy, have scratches or other visible wear. I don't call this a desirable record, unless you just can't find it elsewhere.

NOTE about Promo Copies or White Label Copies – If you get a promo or white label copy of a record and it's in NM or EX condition, consider yourself lucky! These were the first records pressed from a new master casting, and so the precision of the die had not yet been worn by many, many vinyl pressings. Sound fidelity from these pressings is the best it can be – better than any retail version. Promo copies were once illegal to sell; they went to radio stations and reviewers and “important people” , usually before the record was shipped for retail distribution.
