Back in 1981, when I owned a record store, I bought a few copies of these from the record distributor in the L.A. area who had acquired the remaining overstock of the 3-D photos/holograms (or whatever you want to call them).
Apparently, a few more were produced for London Records than were needed for their first print run of the Stones' 1967 album. These are the EXACT same 8" x 8" holograms that were glued to the cover of TSMR to make one of the most famous album covers of all-time.
It can be glued to a standard (2nd pressing and later) version of the vinyl album to make a "new" 3-D cover version of the album. I know it can -- I did it in 1981 several times using simple "airplane glue" or rubber cement. Now with stuff like Super Glue and other more modern adhesives, it should be even easier.
I glued the back and placed it carefully over the 2nd pressing sleeve photo and then put a thick phonebook (remember them) over the hologram to keep it in place. I could then put an additional weight on top of the phonebook to make sure the hologram stayed in place and dried evenly.
I'm a patient guy, so I waited two or three weeks until I was sure it was glued securely (completely dried). I never had a problem with them peeling off, sliding around, etc. I had probably done a better and more careful job than London Records did in 1967. Now you can too.
