The late 80's saw Bowie in a bit of a funk. Not the existential crisis he had for his Berlin trilogy, but more a creative low-point. A few years earlier he released Let's Dance which became a global mega-hit with it's accessible bubblegum pop sound. It made him an uber-super-star and brought in an entirely new audience of young listeners but put him in an awkward spot balancing his new fans with his old ones. The result was the two other mid-80's albums, Tonight and Never Let Me Down, were just awful - and Bowie admitted it.
His idea on how to cure his creative malaise? Get back to roots by making actual rock again, only this time as just another guy in a band. The result is Tin Machine.
The problem was his new fans wanted the bubblegum Bowie and his old fans felt burned by the Let's Dance - Tonight - Never Let Me Down garbage. Tin Machine was a band without an audience.
But the thing is, this band and this album actually does kick some serious ash. Anyone else but Bowie in the lead and TM would have had a little bit of a run. It's hard to be the king.
This is the only North American vinyl release.
Condition:
Vinyl (visual grade): NM (9/10). Friggin unblemished. I mean amazingly clean. I could have over-egged the custard and said Mint and still been right.Note: I know what it's like to get scammed by dishonest ebay sellers, so I do my absolute best to ensure that this item is described honestly. I'm proud of the fact I have perfect feedback as a seller, which means you can bid with confidence. If you would like any additional information, don't hesitate to ask.
