The Beatles - "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band"

Original 1st UK Mono Pressing, as indicated by the earliest -1/-1 matrixes.

'KT' Stamp to side 2.

Cover: G+ (Due to spine)

Vinyl: VG- (However, Does play well on my turntable)

Notes: A copy which has been used, but nonetheless remains in expected condition considering its age. Cover has some signs of storage-related wear, particularly around the edges, with a split to the spine (pictured - photo 4), but still functional for now if handled carefully (Split has not gone right through to the inside gatefold as you can see in photo 3, which means the functionality isn't too drastically altered). Pen mark to label logo (see photo 5).The vinyl has a number of light marks across the disc, but most are wispy and ‘light’ in nature. Some marks are more striking visually and heavier in nature, but there is nothing that is going to render the disc unplayable as I found in my play test; these original pressings where made of quality heavy vinyl which is robust and can withstand the occasional mark to the surface. With that being said, some of the more significant marks may cause a click etc. when the needle passes through. One or two scuffs (one across the disc on side 1 - see photo 6), but again, mainly 'visible' rather than something which causes audio distruption. Couple of marks to side 2: one near the opening, and one near the run-out (again, not particularly audible). I play-tested the entire 1st side and a few of the tracks from side 2 to get an idea for the sound quality, and to my ears it sounded very reasonable with some light crackle in the background, but nothing that detracted from the overall listening experience in my opinion. Instruments were clear and vocals were, similarly, great. As mentioned, there was some crackle at the higher frequencies and quieter passages, but this was not overwhelming in my opinion and could potentially be improved with a further clean if one felt inclined. Nevertheless, this is still a decent copy that I assume will still be suitable for most collectors, particularly at this price point. These first pressings are becoming increasingly harder to find, and those that are in the top condition grades are selling for a lot of money. Priced according to condition, but still a nice piece.

RECORD COLLECTOR'S GRADING SYSTEM

Mint

The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

Please refer to grading system provided, as this should allow you to form a good idea about the condition of the item. Please allow some room for manoeuvre as grading can sometimes be subjective - although I will always try to lean towards conservative gradings.
