Cheer's first albums are legendary and pioneering, no one will deny that.. But by curiosity, the album from Blue Cheer that I feel most compeled to give a spin on my pickup is in fact "Oh! Pleasant Hope".
Reasons dont lack, the opener Hiway Man and its twin Travelling Man (in fact, the evil twin and the good twin), are just classy. Hiway man, for me, is Blue Cheer's best song, it just gets me singing and screamin and is on my list of best songs right there with pink floyd, montrose, riot, grand funk and so many others. Other highlites include Believer, I'm the Light and Heart Full Soul (same song title from the Yardbirds??). From these, "I'm the Light" stands out as a monolith that just doesnt stop.
Tell the truth, all tracks are great, and none deserve the skip button, with the lesser good being Ecological Blues (although quite funny) and Lester the Molester.
For all those that won't accept change, I would certainly tell "GROW UP!".. Free yourself and listen to music for what it is, and maybe you'll discover that Oh Pleasant Hope is a fantastic album.
