JAZZ VINYL LP LOT: Avant Garde Jazz 1960s - 70s
These records are included in this lot:
The Jazz Composer's Orchestra - Michael Mantler (JCOA Records, 1968) with Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, Roswell Rudd, Pharoah Sanders, Larry Coryell, Gato Barbieri, etc., etc. Vinyl VG+ very nice, near pristine; Box & Booklet however are Fair at best. They are severely damaged by water and mold. Booklet is readable, but a mess.
Tales of Captain Black, James Blood (Ulmer) (Artist's House, 1978) with James Blood Ulmer, Ornette Coleman, Jaamaladeen Tacuma, Denardo Coleman. Vinyl is VG+ and plays great. Jacket of this is also only Fair, with water damage. The gatefold is stuck together.
'Coon Bid'ness, Julius Hemphill (Arista, 1975) with Arthur Blythe, Hamiet Bluiett, Abdul Wadud, Barry Altschul, Baikida Carroll, Philip Wilson. The vinyl is in VG condition and plays great, except that there is one spot on the last track of side one where there is a pressing flaw that plays through, but produces an audible pop about 6 revolutions. If not for that flaw, I would grade the album VG+. Again, the jacket is a mess. It's a promo Radio copy with all of the expected markings and labels. And it has significant water damage to boot.
So, all in all, these three new music gems will play very nicely for you, but visually, will leave a lot to be desired. Maybe empty jackets could be found to pair with them. Or maybe you just really enjoy the genre and want to own the vinyl for a not-so-insane price.
