[Recording] Live recording at the Herkulessaal, Munich, on February 7 & 8, 1980 [Analog recording]

There are many famous pianists from South America, including Claudio Arrau, Nelson Freire, Daniel Barenboim and Bruno Leonardo Gelber, but the most unrestrained and passionate of them all is probably Martha Argerich (born 5 June 1941 in Buenos Aires).

She studied with the famous teacher Scaramuzza from the age of 5, and made her debut at the age of 8, playing Mozart and Beethoven piano concertos.

At the age of 14, she went to Europe to study under such famous pianists as Gura, Askenase, Benedetti Michelangeli and Magaloff.

Argerich's name first made a stir in the world of piano in 1957, when she was 16 and won two international competitions in succession, the Busoni and Geneva competitions.

In response to this, she released her debut album on the prestigious Deutsche Grammophon label in 1960, and five years later, in 1965, her victory at the 7th International Chopin Piano Competition made her name and appearance - the image of a beautiful maiden with her long black hair fluttering around the keyboard - instantly famous around the world.

After winning the Chopin Competition, she embarked on a period of performing around the world, and her recordings for Deutsche Grammophon also became more prolific. She recorded piano works by Liszt, Schumann, Chopin, Ravel, and others, as well as concertos with the Berlin Philharmonic under Abbado, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Dutoit, Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and Dutoit/Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and released a series of masterpieces that were each stamped with his unique pianism, gaining him immense popularity.

On the back of his success and fulfillment during the 20 years of the 1960s and 70s, he appeared to be looking towards a new era with his live recording of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in 1980.

This live recording was made at a regular concert by the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich in February 1980 and released by Philips.

The performance reflects the tremendous spirit of the performer in front of the audience, with the dynamic range of the dynamics extended to the limit, the tone changing to a variety of colors, and the improvisation being full of unpredictability about what will happen next.

The explosive force of the key-strokes in the climax of the third movement and the overwhelming sense of speed in the coda are enough to make your hands sweat with excitement, and the audience's applause in response is also restrained.

Argerich easily surpassed the 1970 recording she made with Dutoit and the Royal Philharmonic for Deutsche Grammophon, and took it to even greater heights.
