Grateful Dead Skull & Roses 1971 1st Press & Owner 2 LPs ARE NEAR MINT+ Cover is EX+ (SOME STORAGE/RELOCATION) AMAZING FOR A SET OVER HALF A CENTURY YOUNG! (THIS PUPPY HAS BARELY SEEN THE STYLUS ;-}
(WAY TOO MANY;-}DETAILS & PROVENANCE;
As a Professional Player for almost 30 years, most of my Collection was purchased New. Both visually examined & carefully listened to for defects*; IF THE VINYL WAS CLEAN {IF NOT; BACK TO THE STORE FOR EXCHANGE ;-}, it was then transferred to my Revox A77 open reel ( and a Tandberg or Nackamichi Cassette recorder, as well ;-} so that the many bands I worked with could study the tunes ULTIMATELY, I ENDED UP WITH LESS OCCUPIED STORAGE SPACE WHEN TRANSFERED TO 10.5" OPEN REEL TAPE ;-} HEY, I WAS A RECORD NUT COLLECTOR! LIKE I SAID; MANY WERE NOT EVER PLAYED, AS I WAS PLAYING 5 TO 6 NIGHTS A WEEK MOST OF THE TIMES. SO, the Turntable used was either my THORENS TD-24 with a 12 Shure tonearm or another THORENS with an Infinity Graphite "BLACK WIDOW" damped tonearm. ( I ALWAYS HAD TOP-GRADE EQUIPMENT, AS I ALSO DID HIGH-END SYSTEMS INSTALLATIONS HERE IN WESTCHESTER,NY ;-} AS SHOWN IN PHOTOS; CLEAN, TIGHT SPINDLE HOLES, MANY WERE EITHER PLAYED ONCE OR NOT PLAYED AT ALL! I WAS VERY BUSY AS A PLAYER THOSE DAYS. EITHER WAY; My M.O. WAS TO STORE MOST OF MY FAV. LPs IN PROTECTIVE VINYL SLEEVES, THEN STORING AWAY THE ORIGINAL SLEEVES,INSERTS,POSTERS,ETC. I STILL HAVE THOSE ITEMS & IF IMPORTANT to the NEW OWNER, I WILL SWAP OUT & INCLUDE THE ORIGINAL SLEEVE WHEN POSSIBLE. RECORDS WERE TYPICALLY PLAYED ONCE, then stored within my Collection. {INCLUDING R.&R, JAZZ, POP, COUNTRY, CLASSIC, FOLK, WORLD MUSIC,ETC.;-} If it's NOT PURCHASED NEW, I will describe it as such. FYI; Been around vinyl collecting since the 1950's. Purchased both Private Collections, from stores where friends worked, received many as gifts, etc. I WILL BE LISTING RECORDS FROM MY WAY-TOO LARGE COLLECTION AS TIME PERMITS, BUT FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME IF U R LOOKING FOR SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR! * CRAZY-NOTE CLOSER TALE: I WAS A PERFECTIONIST WHO FREQUENTLY EXCHANGED A BAD COPY FOR A BETTER COPY; For example: I TOOK THE BEE GEES 1ST ALBUM BACK ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES AS IT WAS SO "DECCA-LIKE" WITH POOR PRESS-QUALITY! BEST ALBUM THEY EVER DID! FINALLY, "FOOD FOR THOUGHT". In actuality; These "OPENED & TRANSFERRED" records are one more level of Quality Control, as my Obsessive Perfectionism those days insisted that the record passed the test when recording to open reel & cassette simultaneously. There is no guarantee that a "FACTORY SEALED" LP will not have any defects (some sellers indicate "sold AS-IS" ;-} Right? These have both passed my "Mustard" and NOT been cleaned other than with a DISCWASHER brush & DISTILLED H20 to remove particulates. Good point, yes?
