"The Idaho Cowboy" Pinto Bennett (along with his band, the Famous Motel Cowboys) is a shadowy figure from the recesses of Americana past, remaining largely unknown to casual fans today. While successful in Europe during the mid-to-late eighties, where he played large festivals alongside Willy and the Hag, Bennett returned to his hometown of Boise, Idaho to quickly settle into cult artist obscurity for the better part of his 30 year career. Equal parts country storyteller and honky-tonk troubadour, his rich, everyman narratives have still managed to influence a generation of Northwest artists, such as Reckless Kelly (Yep Roc).
