AGUATURBIA 'Volumen 2' LP (US, Lion Productions, Catalogue #LION-LP 111) Brand new/unplayed copy of superior and limited Lion Productions LP edition (edition of 1000 copies only) of mega-rare 1971 second fuzz-psych masterpiece album by Chilean psych-rock legends Aguaturbia. MANDATORY SOUTH AMERICAN PSYCH ROCK!
(NOTE: LIMITED EDITION OF 1000 COPIES ONLY!)
'One of the best and most important psychedelic bands to emerge from South America (1970). The second album is, if anything, even heavier than the first: many compare it to early Led Zeppelin for heaviness and intensity. Aguaturbia certainly offers up some ultra heavy jams, with fuzzed out guitar work, spaced out vocals and general acid madness. Old style tip-on jacket and quality vinyl pressing. Includes a double-fold insert packed with comments and plenty of photos from the band mebers.'
'Formed in May 1968, Aguaturbia are heralded as Chile's primary underground psychedelic band. Their music is characterised by powerful female vocals and, in places, very heavy fuzz guitar work. The spaced-out vocals and acid atmosphere (plus the fact they covered Somebody To Love) has led some to consider them a Chilean Jefferson Airplane. Their albums were also noted for their controversial covers.
Their debut album is now a mega-rarity. It was recorded live in a simple four-track studio. Only 300 copies were pressed originally. It features a picture on the front cover showing the band sitting nude in a darkly lit room looking totally wasted! In a strict Catholic country this caused quite a stir; straight record shops refused to stock the record and the press and church both censored it. The only place you could buy it was in independent record shops. Considering that the "underground rock" scene in Chile was quite small, the record's rarity today is hardly surprising. The album features a wailin', bluesy cover of Jefferson Airplane's Somebody To Love with vocalist Denise striving to sound like Grace Slick. This earned the band the title of "South American Jefferson Airplane". There's also a wild rendition of the blues classic Rollin' And Tumblin'. The band's guitarist Carlos Corales sounds superb and his skill is evident on the Je T'aime-like Erotica and the ten-minute long mini-epic Carmesi Y Trebol (a freaky cover of Tommy James and The Shondells' Crimson And Clover), which again finds Denise in superb vocal form.
'Their second album had an equally controversial cover which included an image of Denise crucified. Heart Breaker, Evol and Waterfall showcase Denise's vocals further, whilst Blues On The Westside is a bluesy instrumental to chill out to. Much of their material is heavy and raw with bursts of psych guitar, distortion and fuzz. The title track closing the album is sung in Spanish. Like their debut it failed to make the impact it deserved and the band temporarily split, with Carlos and Denise moving to New York.' - Vernon Joynson/Dreams, Fantasies And Nightmares
