Jean FRANÇAIX
Concertino for piano and orchestra
presto — lento — allegretto — rondo — finale
Regina SMENDZIANKA, piano
Silesian Philharmonic, Karol STRYJA
ULTRA-RARE TEST PRESSING, 1 SIDE ONLY
THIS INTERPRETATION OF THE CONCERTINO BY THE GREAT SPECIALIST OF CHOPIN
IS PROBABLY THE FIRST ON RECORD AFTER THAT OF THE COMPOSER IN 1936.
A very poetic playing of both the soloist and orchestra, especially in the lento and the allegretto.
On the front label, handwritten (polish language) :
the title, the names of the composer and of the musicians, the date 25-1-57 (january 1, 1957), the number W-197, 1 illisible word.
On the same label, typed : illisible except "edition repertory"
on the back label, typed : illisible except "approved by POLSKIE NAGRANIA".
The record has been issued on Polskie Nagrania L 0093, and probably also with earlier numbers.
RECORD CONDITION : G (mostly better, barely played but has some dust re-sleeving scuffs, few superficial hairscratches but only one is feelable although not oviously audible ; few blemished revs. at beginning = 3-4 average-to-loud "sshh" noises ; some areas with slightly whitened wax from factory quality ; plays with wax presence, mostly on beginning = some gentle frying and occasional light cracks /// high dynamics, nice sound, enjoyable as document)
