This is the rare original deep-groove pressing of the “Timex All-Star Jazz Show” that was televised on December 30, 1957 and was distributed only to network executives, sponsors, and participants and never commercially available to the public. The Woody Herman Herd leads off, then a spoken intro by Steve Allen who introduces Louis Armstrong playing “Mahogany Hall Stomp” and “Blueberry Hill”, then Dave Brubeck Quartet (with Paul Desmond) “St. Louis Blues”, then Duke Ellington “Ballet of a Flying Saucer”, then Carmen McRae “A Foggy Day” and “They All Laughed”, then Duke Ellington “Such Sweet Thunder”, then Gene Krupa “Dark Eyes”, then Jack Teagarden “Struttin’ With Some Barbecue”, then Jack and Louis “Rockin’ Chair” and a “Jam Session”, then June Christy (with Zoot Sims) “I Want to Be Happy”, then Louis “Up A Lazy River”, and finally a full-cast jam doing “When The Saints…”. Other than a few tics during the spoken intro, the record plays as new, with a nice luster; perhaps played once or twice. No art cover.
