Ultra rare 1971 release on 3rd Ear Records, catalogue number TEE 01. Visually the vinyl looks great ,just a few feint hairline scratches and scuffs. I have played it on a Project Elemental and whilst there is a little bit of surface noise in the quiet passages it plays well. Graded VG++. The gatefold sleeve has some ring mark and wear & tear around the edges so graded VG+. According to the Electric Jive website which is one of the most authorative South African jazz/world music sites, there were only 100 copies pressed. This has sold upwards of $800 and a copy was sold in 2013 for $1300.

Because of the high value of this item we suggest an international door-to-door courier, rates on request.

Review

Music of the Spirit (1971) shows beautiful growth in the range and depth of the Malombo that recorded without Philip Thabane. This recording was also a venture and risk taken by David Marks of Third Ear who pressed only one hundred copies. He reports that he only managed to sell fifty copies in twenty five years. Read more . Third Ear did want to re-release this album a while ago, but it seems that this has not happened. David, if you get to read this, and if you do re-release this fine recording – ElectricJive will immediately assist you and champion its sales. Until then, we humbly share this gem in the hope that it whets appetites and motivation for a possible re-release.
