The album that brought George out of oblivion. "He Stopped Lovin' Her Today" was a song that George actually hated and argued aggressively in the recording studio about laying down on the album track. He thought it was too slow and too "boring" for the average country music fan to warm to. He had been on a drinking binge for years and highly criticized for missing concerts and in legal battles with concert promoters. When "He Stopped Lovin' Her ...." hit the airwaves, it quickly not only went to #1 and stayed there for a record-busting # of weeks, but it became obvious that it might very well be the greatest country music song since "Your Cheatin' Heart" by Hank Williams. It is. My dad was the premier GOLD/PLATINUM record award maker for Music Row in Nashville for 50 years and recently passed away. I inherited his workshop and his inventory. Among his memorabilia are hundreds of "leftover" GOLD and PLATINUM awards ordered up by the big label companies for the past decades which he over-produced purposefully in the event they needed extra ones after sending the initial ones to radio stations and VIP's as "thank you's" for helping them make the albums successful. This is one of those extremely rare treasures found in his shop.
With the blue & gold matting, the blue-on-gold plated cassette and the baby blue rhinestone fabric background, this award is an eye-catcher.
You will receive a Certificate of Authenticity with the award and if you would like your name on the COA, please message me on ebay with the name you would like. Otherwise, it will be the same COA in generic form.
