Marika Papagika – The Further The Flame, The Worse It Burns Me: Greek Folk Music in New York City, 1919-1928 (vinyl LP)
Wonderful recordings from one of the three Queens of Rebetika (the other two being Roza Eskenazi and Rita Abatzi). Papagika was perhaps the most important performer to bring Greek music to America. Born at the beginning of the 20th centrury on the Greek island of Kos, she emigrated to America in 1918, where she pursued a successful recording career together with her husband, Kostas.
