*** Depression era (1932) Sizzlin Hot Jazz ***
From the collection of a dutch female collector who sadly passed away years ago. Her records where kept by a family member. She started buying Jazz in the early 30s and expanded her taste to Blues when the first pioneering reissues were released in the 50s. She worked as a translator and for her job she traveled to France, Germany, Italy, England...picking up records along the way.
Here's a 1932 German Kristall 78 of a super hot Rhythmakers session. The Rhythmakers was a name used for an All-star recording group in 1932 using a different players names as bandleader on various records. Most were released with either Billy Banks or Jack Bland as the frontman, but I believe some records were also released with Red Allen as leader.
The band included the cream of the crop of both black and white Chicago (New Orleans) and New York players. Trumpeter Henry Red Allen, trombonist Tommy Dorsey, reedmen Pee Wee Russell, Jimmy Lord and Happy Caldwell; pianists Joe Sullivan, Fats Waller and Frank Froeba; banjoist Eddie Condon, guitarist Jack Bland, bassists Al Morgan and Pops Foster, and drummers Gene Krupa and Zutty Singleton. Vocals are by Red Allen, Fats Waller, Billy Banks, and Chick Bullock.
Great record!
artist: Jack Bland & His Rhythmaker titles: Someone Stole Gabriel's Horn / Who Stole De Lock? year: 1932 label: Kristall -21182 (Germany) dead wax: 12455-1 / 12452-2 3 condition: (grading is from 1 to 10 with 10 being new) visually: 6 out of 10 (edge chip not in the grooves, the chip looks bad but it actually plays a couple of grooves nicely before the music starts - greying/dull finish / superficial scratches) plays: 6 out of 10 (still enjoyable) Looks V+ plays V+
