(NOTE: NUMBERED, LIMITED EDITION OF 500 COPIES ONLY!)

'Recorded in late July and early August 1968 in Lawrence, Kansas USA. The four Smack members were all summer scholarship music and arts students attending Kansas University (KU) in Lawrence, Kansas. All music tracks were cut 'Live' - only over-dubbed lead vocals and background vocals. That year there were some 2800 summer students attending a 6 week summer arts scholarship session - 1800 females and 900 males. Smack was born and played a gig several weeks later and the next thing you know they were all 'stars' of the campus. Someone from the university arranged for them to go in and record an album. An original Smack LP is as rare as gold dust. We have only seen 2 copies for sale the past 15 years for massive money. The music are great cover versions of Cream and Hendrix songs are killer. The whole album (very well produced) has a one of a kind Psychedelic feel. There are not many cover albums which give you another perspective on those known songs. This album does for sure.'

'A surprisingly enjoyable guitar-psych Top 40 cover LP with tunnel-vision galore as these high school kids get down with four Hendrix and three Cream numbers, making the additional Kinks and Buffalo Springfield tunes seem downright exotic. Somewhat mysteriously the guitar player achieves some of the best fuzz-tone I have ever heard, and isn't afraid to use it. The full band has the right power-trio directness, and are given an additional hand by the excellent in-yer-face recording. The vocalists do credible Jimi and Jack Bruce imitations and as a whole any sarcastic jokes aimed at this LP come flying back like a cream pie in the face of the listener. The band members came from different parts of the US and got together at a summer camp in Kansas. They rehearsed for a few weeks before releasing this album on request of the other camp kids, even though Smack's 'acid rock' performance had been aborted by camp management!' - Patrick Lundborg/Acid Archives
