TOTAL DESTRUCTION TO YOUR MIND
(1970) It's  has been called “one of the most gloriously gonzo soul recordings of all time”. The title track is a slam-bangin’ chunk of rock and funk that’s pushed by  a great session band including guitarist Jesse Carr and drummer Johnny Sandlin, and is easily Dogg’s finest moment on record. But the rest of this is great too, ranging from the consumer nightmare “Synthetic World” to the paternity blues of “Mama’s Baby, Daddy’s Maybe.” – AMG

Swamp Dogg’s new album, and his first soul record in decades. With the help of a cast of veteran soul greats, the idiosyncratic performer re-captures the spirit of his 70’s cult recordings. “The White Man Made Me Do It” mixes classic Southern soul grooves with pointed, poignant lyrics, reflecting upon race, love, and money. As usual Swamp demonstrates his savage sense of humor and his instinctive aversion to hypocrisy. Swamp Dogg is currently in the midst of a resurgence of interest in his work, coinciding with a new series of remastered reissues of his vintage albums, along with a selection of some of his most noteworthy production projects, including cult-classic releases by Doris Duke, Irma Thomas, Charlie Whitehead (aka Raw Spitt), Z.Z. Hill, Lightnin’ Slim, Wolfmoon and Sandra Phillips, all currently available on Alive Naturalsound.

RAT ON

RAT ON! (1971), was ranked as having one of the top ten worst album covers of all time, an achievement that Swamp Dogg is rightfully proud of. Vocally, Swamp Dogg sounds like a cross between General Johnson (of Chairmen of the Board) and Van Morrison; as a songwriter, he's his own man. With the exception of Sly Stone, no other soul men of the period were investigating controversial topics with such infectious musicality and good humor. – AMGA unique blend of in-the-pocket cheatin' soul and defiantly pessimistic civil rights anthems. – Mojo (4 stars)
