ARETHA FRANKLIN'S 1st PLATINUM AWARD Who's Zoomin' Who ? 1985 Recorded in Detroit over a six month period, it was highlighted by Executive Producer Clive Davis's creativity and the recording of one of the three top 10 hits with the Eurythmics, co-producer, Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox. Aretha won a Grammy in 1985 as "Best Female R&B Vocal Performance" for Freeway of Love. In August, 1985 the album was certified GOLD by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) to go along with Aretha's growing mountain of other GOLD records, but finally, in December of that same year, she got her first certified PLATINUM album, followed by the coveted Grammy for her performance of Freeway of Love.
ARETHA FRANKLIN was the undisputed QUEEN OF SOUL. From "RESPECT" TO "You Better Think" to more than 100 hits, and a multi-PLATINUM gospel album "Amazing Grace," she graced stage after stage, probably capping her career with a stunning and standing ovation performance at the Kennedy Center honoring Carole King when she brought down the house with "Natural Woman" and brought tears to the eyes of actors, politicians, comedians and the president of the United States. Dying of advanced pancreatic cancer, she left a vacancy in the world of music and she took with her an American treasure, but a treasure that will be remembered forever where music is heard, studied or loved.
R.I.P. Aretha Franklin.
