SYRIAC MARONITE CATHOLIC liturgical and hymnal recordings on 3 LPs

Three very rare LPs featuring the hymns and liturgy of the Syriac Maronite Church, one of the Catholic Eastern churches in communion with the bishop of Rome. These LPs feature hymns and prayers in the Syriac language, Arabic, and English. The consecration of the Eucharist in the Maronite tradition is always in the Syriac language, which is a 1st-century development of the Aramaic language spoken by Jesus, connecting these Christians (and other Christians who use the Syriac language in their worship, like the Syriac Orthodox in the Middle East and India) with the earliest communities of Christians in the world.

I have tried to focus on the consecration in the soundclip below, so you will hear it twice (from two different records) so that you can hear what Syriac sounds like. It’s very beautiful!

Check it out in this long soundclip:

Individual titles are, in order of appearance in the soundclip:

(1) “Cedars Of Lebanon” LP (no release year; probably c. 1970s): Fr. Mansour Labaky together with the choirs of St. Bonaventure and St. Anthony of Padua choirs of Cincinnati, USA. This LP is very interesting; I think it might be the first recording of Maronite hymns in English, though Fr. Labaky himself prays in Syriac, as you can hear in the soundclip. Record and sleeve are both VG. The LP sounds static-y, but it could be that it’s a very low-volume recording on a dusty record. Sleeve has some writing and yellowing on the back, and some bends.

 (2) Concilio Vaticano II – Messe Maronite En La Basilique St. Pierre 5 Novembre 1962 LP: Recorded live as parto f the Vatican II council, with celebrant Msgr. J. Khoury, soloist B.P. Achkar, and others. Extremely rare and historic live recording with introduction in Italian (or is it Latin?). No sleeve for this one. The LP is G, with lots of static and pops.

(3) Messe Solennelle Maronite LP (Parlophone 1960s): Famous singer Wadih El Safi sings on this LP, recorded at St. Maroun church in Ghazir under the direction of Fr. Maroun Murad. Record ranges from VG+ to G (there is an ugly looking blemish on side A that lowers the grade; check the last photo in the gallery). Sleeve is G, with a seam split on the top side and some tape left by the last owner that has begun to yellow.

Condition: See above descriptions for individual grades. Check soundclip and photos.

Terms (Please read carefully): Payment is due within THREE (3) DAYS via Paypal – no exceptions. **NOTE TO NON-USA BIDDERS: I will only ship outside of the USA using E-bay’s Global Shipping Program, as this protects buyer and seller from loss, damage, etc. This program entails extra fees for international tracking, customs, etc., which results in a high shipping cost. These fees are not set by me (as the seller, I don’t even get to see them), I don’t make any money off of them, and they are NOT NEGOTIABLE. Also, E-bay’s Global Shipping Program does not allow auction wins to be combined into one shipment. This means that if you win more than one auction for me, I will not be able to give you a combined shipping price, but will have to ship each item separately in its own box. If you win more than one item, please pay for each separately.

NOTE: I recently (5/13/2016) spoke with E-bay customer service, who verified that for some items the GSP system has a glitch which allows the bidder to combine multiple items into one order, even though this is explicitly forbidden under the GSP terms. Please do not do this, as it creates problems for me when I have to print out labels for the packages (sometimes E-bay does not allow me to print out the necessary number of labels). If you live outside of the USA and combine orders at the time of payment, I reserve the right to cancel the transaction if it causes problems. Please pay for each item separately!**

**ADDITIONAL SPECIAL NOTE FOR NON-USA BIDDERS: It is YOUR responsibility to understand the impact of the Global Shipping Program on the cost of shipments to your country BEFORE YOU BID on my auctions. I DO NOT WORK FOR E-BAY and cannot answer your questions about shipping costs. As clearly stated above, I do not have any control over how much you are charged, nor even any way to know how much you are charged (or will be charged). Please do not send me questions about this.**

***RELATED TO THIS, I will not answer any requests received during or after an auction about shipping to non-USA locations for a cheaper amount using some other option that isn’t the Global Shipping Program. I get an average of 3 or 4 of these kinds of questions per week, and the answer will always be no. Please don’t waste my time or your time by asking for me to violate my own shipping policy.***

USA bidders (or non-USA bidders with USA addresses registered with E-bay and Paypal!): I will gladly combine your wins into the fewest shipments possible. Please wait until this week’s auctions are finished and I will send you an invoice with the correct combined shipping total for your location. Please do not pay the automatically generated invoice from E-bay that will overcharge you for shipping.

Your item(s) will be shipped within ten (10) days of receiving cleared payment.

Please see my other auctions for more rare music.
