Rare Record Grading Definitions used for listing

Mint (M)   Absolutely perfect in every way. Certainly never been played, possibly even still sealed.

Near Mint (NM)   A nearly perfect record. The record should show no obvious signs of wear.

The record should have no more than the most minor defects such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. The cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable defects. Any other inserts, posters, lyric sheets should also be in the same condition.

Excellent (EX)  An excellent record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect listening experiences.

The label may have some ring wear or discolouration, but it should be barely noticeable.

The centre hole will not be misshapen by repeated play.

The cover and inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split.

Record sleeve  may have slight signs of wear.

Very Good (VG)   Many of the defects found in a EX record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Some audible surface noise when playing, especially in quieter parts of the songs.

Vinyl wear will start to be noticeable, light scratches that will affect the sound with a few clicks or pops. Labels may have a name written on it.

Picture sleeves or LP covers will have have visible creases, edges rubbed but still be in decent shape.

Good (G)  Records graded as Good condition will have been played so many times that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, scratches are clearly visible, the Cover and other items will suffer from discoloration, split seams, spine damage, edge rubbing etc.

+ may be added if the record is slightly better than one grade, but not quite up to the next.
