Seldom offered...this is a 7" Victor Record.....looks to be in very good condition, considering it's age.....one sided...very early record and very rare....by George W. Johnson......The first American Black Recording artist......with one of his famous recordings "The Whistling Coon"........I apologize for the language in the title, but I need to get it in correctly.......hopefully most black memorabilia collectors will understand..... Shipping In the U.S. $4.00....combined shipping if you buy more then one record....
In 1890, George W. Johnson, a former slave, became the first African-American musician to make commercial records. During his short but successful singing career, Johnson sold thousands of recordings. But his contribution to the music industry has been mostly ignored. The Library of Congress is now recognizing George W. Johnson's contribution to music. Another one of Johnson's records "The Laughing Coon Song" was added to the National Recording Registry.
There is so much more on the internet about this artist.....check it out for your self....
