The Vinyl Record Grading Scale I Use Is Listed Below:

SEALED. Jacket sealed shut in shrink wrap; disc sold ungraded or "as is."

NM. Appears unplayed and will bear no marks, sleeve scuffs, or scratches. No visible signs of wear or damage.

EX. May have one or two visible imperfections (sleeve scuffs, faint scratches, or other marks) that does not affect play. Still very shiny and near new looking.

VG+. A few visible imperfections (sleeve scuffs, light scratches, or other marks) Still very shiny with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.

VG. Same imperfections found on VG+ records but in slightly greater numbers. No deep scratches.

VG-. A number of visible imperfections; the presence of a considerable number of light scratches will force this grade, as with the presence of significant isolated defects such as scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.

G. Pervasive imperfections of varying degrees including both light and deep scratches. G+ and G- are used to indicate stronger or weaker copies within this range.

Note: Sample clips were recorded using a Audio-Technica AT-LP120 turntable. The record or stylus may have dust present which could affect the sound quality of the sample clips provided. Tone arm tracking weight is set to 2.5 for most records, and for records with grades VG- or below, the tone arm can be adjusted to 3.5 to avoid the possibility of skipping.
