The Natural History is a unique type of classic rock act. The term is generally used to describe a band that riffs on the arena-filling hard rock of the '60s and '70s, but rather than emulating dinosaurs like Led Zep or the Stones, the Natural History looks to the punk and new wave tunesmithing of Elvis Costello, XTC, and the Jam, among others. "Watch This House," for instance, is an angular Swiss watch, all stabs of post-punk guitar and off-kilter beats. Like its more popular contemporary Spoon, this band is able to construct anthemic radio rock out of jagged shards and hummable scraps.
