The Beatles: PLEASE PLEASE ME 4th/5th Press? MONO PMC 1202 + Emitex. Ex Audio.

See below re 4th/5th press.

PLAY TESTED JANUARY 16th. EXCELLENT AUDIO

The audio playback is minimum excellent. Some surface noise/static on the intros/run-ins of side 1 and 2, as you’d expect, but the only other noticeable clicks/pops were as follows.

Side 1 is superb, perhaps near mint, as there’s barely if any surface noise/crackle, even in between tracks. Stunning.

Side 2 is not quite as good, but still excellent, with a click after P.S. I Love You, a tiny bit of crackle half-way through A Taste Of Honey, and a light click between Taste of Honey & There’s A Place. Excellent.

Visually, the vinyl is minimum VG+, with just some faint marks/hairlines.

4th/5th Press.

The 4th pressing, summer 1963-Jan 1964, came in G&L or Ernest J Day sleeves, with front laminated cover, and large Mono to front. Black label with yellow logo & silver print. ‘The Parlo Co Ltd’ on perimeter and ‘Rec first published 1963. It was housed in a tracing-paper (not poly) lined Emitex die-cut inner. With or without KT embossed tax code. Matrix Numbers XEX 421-1N & XEX 422-1N.

The existence of the 5th mono press is apparently not confirmed (information welcome), though it’s thought to have the same labels as this pressing, and that the first edition with the matrix of the pressing for auction here, appeared in early 1964.

SLEEVE (Ernest J. Day) Good+ (Angus McBean)

Front laminate is VG+, with some creasing, though no laminate lifting. A little edge ware/scuffing is evident. Strong spine.

Rear of sleeve has noticeable ware and tare, and a tape repair to top flip-back. Also some ringing. Bottom flip-back is also coming away to bottom left.

Overall sleeve condition is Good+

EMITEX INNER. VG

The tracing-paper lined inner has some tiny rips/tares near the window on either side, and has some creasing. It is though free of any further rips, with just a small seam split to top right. VG

In conclusion, this is a lovely, original 4th/5th press mono, with minimum excellent audio. I do though tend to be quite conservative in my gradings/descriptions, as being a collector myself, I appreciate that accurate and honest grading is paramount. Thus, I retain a 100% positive feedback rating, so rest assured, you can bid with confidence.
