This is the rare original Limited Edition (#88/200) of Ella Fitzgerald “Sings the George and Ira Gershwin Song Book” on Verve MGV 4024-4028. Volumes 1, 2, 4, and 5 are in virtually new condition; Volume 3 has a hairline on the fourth track of Side B that creates six light tics. The box is in exceptional condition – amazingly bright and clean – with just a single re-glued corner edge. The contents of this remarkable box include: a 7” EP with instrumental selections “Ambulatory Suite” and “The Preludes”; a 12” x 9” 48-page hardback pictorial “The Gershwins, Words Upon Music”; a folio of five 11 ½” x 11 ½” art prints by Bernard Buffet; and an enclosure signed by Norman Granz, with authentic signatures of Bernard Buffet, Nelson Riddle, Ella Fitzgerald, Ira Gershwin and George Gershwin (the Geroge Gershwin signatures were from checks that were obtained from the Gershwin estate). The set is a testament to Norman Granz, perhaps the most important music producer. $400.00.
