This
is the original RVG-stamped “P”- pressing of Kenny Drew “Undercurrent” on the
West 63rd labels of Blue Note BLP 4059. The
playing surface is in near-new condition, with a high luster; perhaps played
once; “Review Copy” stamped on Side 1 label. (Although many
collectors consider copies with a deep groove on Side 2 as the “original”
pressing, that is questionable. BLP 4059 was the first release when the center
stamping parts changed, deleting the deep groove, and so many subsequent issues
were mixed deep groove/non – deep groove pressings when the centers were used
randomly. The fact that this is a “Review Copy” - usually sent to
writers prior to its commercial release - suggests that the deep groove on some
copies was a later pressing.) The laminated New York 23 cover is
also in near-new condition – bright clean and immaculate in every respect –
still in the original shrink wrap, with sharp corners; 1” crease at the upper
right corner; “Review Copy” stamped at the upper left corner of the back
slick. Personnel include Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley, Sam Jones,
and Louis Hayes. $2,500.00.
