Cannonball Adderley - SOMETHIN' ELSE Classic Records 4LP 200gm Single-Sided 45RPM Clarity Vinyl limited edition. One of the all-time great Blue Notes, and this is as close as you'll get to the master tape: wide and deep soundstage, great song selection, the tonal purity of Cannonball's alto...it's all here. Just check out his showcase piece "Dancing In The Dark"...gorgeous! Now's your chance to get this LONG out of print rarity at a fair market price!
IMPORTANT: I've owned this set since day of release, and I play-graded all 4LPs. Please see detailed listening notes below.
The outer box is in NM condition, with no issues other than perhaps a bit of aging. The album cover included in the box is in NM condition; it's flawless.
PLAY GRADING: I play-graded this record (listened to the entire album) and the LP grades a solid Near Mint Minus.
isn = incidental surface noise nm = dead quiet ANYTHING IN ALL CAPS = A noise event significant enough to merit comment
PLAY-GRADED LISTENING NOTES: LP 1 - isn around 1:00, a couple ticks at 1:30 and 1:39, isn at 5:45, tick at 7:12, isn at 8:00, isn around 8:40 plus two unpleasant pops at the very end. Excluding these noise events, LP 1 is NM, so the average grade is EX. LP 2 - isn for the first 30 seconds, nm until a tick at 5:57, isn at 6:23, isn at 6:45 and to the end of track. Average grade is NM Minus. LP 3 - soft tick at 1:52, isn at 4:45, isn during the end of track. Average grade NM Minus. LP 4 Track 1 - soft tick around 4:40. Average grade NM. LP 4 Track 2 - NM
SUMMARY: Overall excellent pressing and stunning sonics. The vinyl earns a solid Near Mint Minus grade.
ABOUT 45 RPM PRESSINGS
A lot of audiophile titles get reissued as 45 rpm sets for several reasons, but the most important one is because they almost universally sound better than a 33 1/3 version.
This is not hype. LPs pressed at 45 rpm offer a wider dynamic range, deeper bass, and sweeter top end. While 33 1/3 offers more convenience (more tracks/time per side before you have to flip the LP over), there are significant tradeoffs, including more compression (particularly as the stylus moves closer to the center) and lower frequency extension (you need physical space to cut deep bass wavelengths into vinyl).
I’ve played “A/B” comparisons for a lot of folks (mostly non-audiophiles), and no one has yet chosen a 33 1/3 title over a 45 rpm version. It is NOT subtle.
ABOUT SHIPPING AND HANDLING: Please note there is a $3 fee included in Ebay's estimate of Media Mail shipping costs. I believe the best way to way to ship an LP includes a 13"x14"x3" "pizza" style box, 12"x12" cardboard flats, outer shopping bag, and bubble wrap. The shipping boxes alone cost me over $3 each, and the average total cost of shipping materials is around $4.72, so this is NOT a money-maker for me. However, it does ensure, consistently, that these high value LPs arrive safely. Please check my feedback and I think you'll see that buyers appreciate the care with which these precious artifacts are handled.
COMBINED SHIPPING: I am more than happy to combine shipping. Ebay buyers pay the actual postage costs. If a single LP is purchased, the buyer pays actual postage and $3 for shipping materials. If two LPs are purchased, the buyer pays actual postage and $3 for shipping materials. If three or more LPs are purchased, the buyer pays actual postage and $0 for shipping materials (I will absorb the cost of materials). As the final amount can only be calculated after auctions have ended, I will issue the appropriate refund on the day the LPs are shipped.
About Me: I'm a long time Ebay buyer intent on selling a significant portion of my LP collection over the next year or two (or three!). I believe in the auction process, so I'm NOT going to list records at absurdly high prices, and I look forward to getting rare, out of print records into the hands of music lovers, record collectors and audiophiles (I consider myself all of the above). All LPS stored in a smoke-free, climate controlled environment.
Please check my feedback and BID WITH CONFIDENCE. Also, please take a look at other items I'm listing (new items will be listed on Sunday and Wednesday nights), and good luck!
PayPal Payments Only. Payment required within 3 days after the end of auction. All records will ship USPS Media Mail.
